Desalting & Dehydration Services

Let NATCO R&D Specialists test samples of your actual crude oil feedstock to determine the best possible solution to crude dehydration or desalting for your specific application.

As a leader in crude dehydration for upstream and crude desalting for downstream, we have tested over 600 crude oils and blends for their particular characteristics in an electrostatic environment, which allows us to model accurate performance curves. We can choose the best electrostatic technology for your application considering your performance criteria, costs, operability and risk profile.

Our Hydrocarbon Treatment Units (HTU) are capable of performing a wide range of oil treatment simulation tests. These tests can accommodate crude oils between 11°API and 60°API to optimize the separation of water from oils in organic phases for dehydration and desalting.

The HTU pilot plants are adequately equipped with efficient heating to simulate process temperatures and pressures up to 325°F and 150 PSI, respectively. The HTU is also equipped with the necessary hardware to simulate conventional electrostatic technologies, to allow comparisons with our advanced electrostatic processes like Dual Frequency and Electro-Dynamic Desalting.

We also provide electrostatic susceptibility testing, physical property testing, and crude oil conductivity testing to assist in technology selection, to troubleshoot on-going operating problems, to support crude slate changes, and to support chemical selection of demulsifiers and clarifiers for your new or existing NATCO desalter or dehydrator.
