History

Founded in 1926 in Tulsa, Oklahoma as the National Tank Company, NATCO has been a pioneer of oil industry production processing. Starting with a single location and selling only simple storage tanks, we continuously evolved to keep up with the ever-changing oil and gas production industry.

By the 1940s, we had pioneered many of the original separation technologies for converting unprocessed hydrocarbon fluids into salable oil and gas, and its operations encompassed the entire domestic U.S. oil industry. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, we continued to develop products such as emulsion breaking treaters, indirect heaters, and natural gas dehydrators, and at the same time, expanded its operations to international areas.

As the oil industry became more international and also began to focus on natural gas production, NATCO expanded both the geographic and technical scope of operations.

We developed many of the products still used in oil and gas production today, like the first high capacity oil and gas separator, the first emulsion treating system, advanced electrostatic oil treaters, superior water filtration systems, and high pressure indirect heaters. Today, our wave-motion compensating separator is the industry standard for offshore applications and we continue to develop more sophisticated electrostatic oil dehydration and desalting technologies.

Now named NATCO Group Inc., we incorporated in Delaware in 1988. Through our subsidiaries, we have now designed, manufactured, and marketed oil and gas production equipment and systems for more than 80 years. We currently hold over 80 active US and equivalent foreign patents and more than 100 US and foreign trademarks.

NATCO’s focus on technology led to the acquisition of TEST, Inc. in 1997, the acquisition of Cynara® in 1998 and the acquisitions of Porta-Test International, Modular Production Equipment, Inc. (MPE), and Engineering Specialties, Inc. (ESI) in 2000, Axsia Group in 2001, ConSepT in 2007, and Linco-Electromatic, Connor Sales, Inc., and Process Analytical Applications, Inc (PAAI), in 2008.

Our products and services are used onshore and offshore, upstream and downstream, in most major oil and gas producing regions of the world.

We are a publicly-traded company listed on the NYSE since 2000 under the symbol NTG.
