The Saudi Kayan-Olefins Project, a joint venture of SABIC and Al Kayan Petrochemical company, is currently under construction in Jubail Industrial City in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Concerned with how to safely and environmentally process the heavily contaminated ethylene quench water from the Olefins unit, Saudi Kayan selected the NATCO DOX® technology, Dispersed Oil Extraction Process.
This large system, designed to treat 239 m3/hr of feed water, consists of multiple skid packages and various vessels. The DOX technology is designed to remove hydrocarbons and solids through high perforamcne coalescence and separation stages that are fully automated and limit net water usage in this harsh desert environment. The efficient design is fully self-contained, to reduce operator exposure to hydrocarbons and BTEX, and to minimize waste. The project is planned to start-up in 2010.
NATCO provided engineering design and fabrication of the complete system. The DOX unit includes primary and secondary skid packages containing coalescers and separators, including NATCO’s Performax® technology, as well as a separate chemical injection system, independent vessels, and a pumping skid.
The project was coordinated between NATCO Houston Operating Center, the EPC Company, KBR, in Singapore, a sub-fabricator in Kuwait, and the job site in Saudi Arabia.
